This ancient game is played with 8 decks of cards. The cards are shuffled and placed in a box called a "shoe" to be dealt. Those participating in the game place a wager on either Banker or Player. Two hands, of two cards each, are dealt from the shoe. Later, a third card may be required for either hand. The first hand represents those betting on Player, the other those betting on Banker. The winning hand is the one which totals the closest to 9. Tens, cards totaling ten and picture cards count nothing. Ace is counted as one, deuce as two, etc. If the cards total a two digit number, only the last number counts (i.e. 7+8=15; 15 counts as 5).

The cards are dealt from the shoe by those wagering on the game. The shoe is passed one person to the right each time Player wins or if the person dealing elects to pass it.

The hand representing Player is given face down to the person with the largest wager on Player. He then exposes those cards for all to see and passes them to the house dealer who calls out their total value. In the event there is no wager on Player, the cards representing that hand are turned up by the house dealer who calls out their total value. If no further cards are required, the house dealer will declare a winner. If a third card is required for either or both hands, the house dealer calls for it, face up, and declares a winner. Again, only the last digit of the total counts. In case of a tie, the hand is replayed.

Bets are paid even money but a 5% commission is charged on winning Banker bets. A bet on a tie hand may be made which pays 9 for 1.

Rule for Drawing Cards

1. IF: Banker and/or Player has 8 or 9 on first two cards, no further cards are drawn.
2. IF NOT, THEN: Player having 0-5 must draw one card. Player having 6-7 must stand.
3. THEN: Banker stands or draws one card as indicated by the chart.
